Power or Deception
Good Morning!
My friend Sara who just joined our faith email list recently brought me a book that I should read called The Power of Covenant after I had written about covenant last week. I just started it and it is really good. I am not too far along but I think there is so much to help answer the question and hurdle a lot of people ask regarding why God doesn’t just do something about the evil in this world (He did! And He will again!) and why do bad things happen….is God really “in control”?
This short message is not going to be able to get into the depth of all of that, but I am going to share a little.
God gave man authority on earth back in Genesis with Adam and Eve. When Jesus came back and died and went to hell and rose again and conquered death, He once again gave authority back to us.
Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:18-20
He is sovereign and He can do anything and He will come again and every knee will bow to Him one day, but we have been given authority by Him on earth through the power He Himself gave us through His Holy Spirit. I know that is a concept we all already understand, but I really don’t think very many Christians use the authority they’ve been given. We have decided in many ways to be deceived into believing a lot of the enemy’s lies and because of that, we don’t use the power and authority we have through God. The enemy does not have power unless he can deceive us, then we make decisions based out of that.
Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil. 1 John 3:8
Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. James 4:7
Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. Ephesians 6:11
Every time we start going down the worry/fear/negative path, we need to train our minds to go back to what God says. This can be done, but as much time as we’ve spent being deceived, we need to put into God’s truth!
I’m looking forward to doing the Brain Detox by the power of God’s Word and prayer starting May 1. It is one way to start rewiring our minds and making use of the power God has given us! (If you’d like to join us, let me know and I’ll send you the details)
May God bless you with the fullness of His grace and power and love today! jennie
